Another adaptive re-use project with our good friends allowed the insertion of a commercial wine storage facility with two distinct parts; one for the traditional commercial warehouse, storage and distribution for the group and another for a unique high security temperature and light controlled storage facility for private collections.
The project represents the collaboration of significant Perth talent: Fini Group Director, Adrian Fini, Architect Patrick Miller (Finespun); State Buildings Creative Director Alessio Fini and wine guru Farrelly. Totally rebuilding a discreetly set former warehouse in Carrington Street, Nedlands, gave the State Cellars team scope to get everything right. “The project attempts to re-create the cave-like experience of underground cellars,” says architect Miller, “dark and moody within a low ceiling environment.
“The design intent was to reference the textured coloured earth in which vines are grown and contrast this with the robust rigid strength that only steel can provide.” Miller emphasises the project’s adaptive re-use of a former warehouse, retaining pre-existing building stock, is the most sustainable form of building practice.
