As usual, our FINESPUN annual wrap up of the last year of 2023 is found HERE.
This year in 2024, we have been in the game for 15 years. What a great milestone and what a great honour to have worked on some of WA's iconic and unique projects.
We have always valued the repeat business and long term relationships with many of our Clients over the 15 years.
We have always valued Unique Projects which align with our own moral compass of contributing to the City, giving back to the people, preserving historical building stock and building sustainably through adaptive re-use.
We have always valued the wonderful expertise from the Builders and associated Trades that work on these projects to bring ideas into fruition.
We have always valued the focused input from Consultants to allow us to make the right decisions and who join us on every projects journey.
After 15 years, in 2024 - FINEPSUN will be a little different.
In the meantime, my sincere gratitude to all our Clients, Builders, Trades and Consultants.

What a night! As a guest of the WA Good Food Guide awards this year (thanks Georgia Moore!) - it was interesting to see how the hospitality industry celebrates their awards night - it was fast, it was fun and it was relaxed. It was so good to see and hear the community get behind one another - its a real community.
The best part was getting a look into the Fremantle Passenger Terminal at the Port and then enjoying chats, drinks and food at Gage Roads for the post awards party. Photo above from 1962 - and thankfully much of this is still in tact today.

The team behind WA Good Food Guide do an outstanding job, including the media roll out and post awards public exposure is something the architectural profession could take some cues from.

Well there has been some recent press of late on Southcamp (links below), thanks to Swift Brown Fox, which is great news given Dunn Bay Continental fitout is complete to Building 4, Southcamp Brew House, Kitchen and Cafe are open and the last of the prefabricated Cabins are almost complete.
What an honor to be involved in such a great collaboration with the Atzemis Family, Place Development, Miles Hull and Michael Forde to create such a unique development for the Dunsborough precinct.
Such great efforts from both Marcos Prado and Jennifer Vos in our team. Finally time to enjoy the fruits of our labour and head south for the Summer months and relax in the Courtyard.

Another awards ceremony and more awards! This one for Victoria House in Shenton Park as expected.
We were very pleased to see our Client HESPERIA pick up two gongs, winning both the Design Category and the Medium Density Development awards.
Congratulation goes out to HESPERIA, MJA Architects, the wider project team and of course PACT Construction.

Its no suprise that Lawson Flats - a new wave members club in the heart of Perth CBD was recently shortlisted for the nation wide Design Institute of Australia Awards. A collaboration between design lead Jen Lowe from OHLO Studio together with collaborative input from the Client FINI Group allowed us to provide another adaptive re-use project and for those interested in understanding the ethos behind the club, read the following well considered text from the DIA webstie;
The premise behind Lawson Flats was an ‘unbuttoned’ civic space where people with divergent views could come together based on interests, not industries, in a spirit of equity. The client hoped to build the city’s creative capital by attracting a diverse membership base in a social club with irreverence at its heart and community as its focus. More integral than any visual design typology was the curation of a community and its ethos. The design team have protected and elevated the heritage 1937 commercial palazzo-style building and used flexible, ethically procured insertions and ‘stacked’ uses throughout the venue to provide diverse opportunities for members and the wider community.

We attended the Master Builders WA Awards night this month and what a night it was.
We were very pleased to see the Builders on our latest projects be nominated on the night of nights - Excellence in Construction.
Congratulations to ICS Australia, PACT Constructions and Perkins Builders - its been a tough few years in the construction industry - but can honestly say ive personally enjoyed working with all three Builders and their core staff on site - they have all shown up and maintained honesty and integrity throughout the build process.

Get ready Shenton Park and all Perth locals that love the food and beverage offerings from the team behind North Street Store, Little Loaf / Big Loaf and more..... here comes Wards Central Dining.
Housed in the 84 year old former Shenton Park Rehabilitation Hospital building which has been wonderfully opened up and restored by our team at FINESPUN and PACT Constructions as part of the Hesperia Victoria House mixed use project.
'Wards Central Dining is a dine-in, take-away venue which combines the groups unique sense of fun, love of the past and commitment to serving the best in a way they have never done before'.
Im looking forward to hanging out on the Terrace, watching the sunset and enjoying some of the most wholesome food Perth has to offer. There is also an open park on the adjoining lot (something we championed in the early design stages) for the younger ones to hang out in. I hear there are some good low walls to grind for skateboarders and BMX alike.
Fun Fact: This building was built in 1939, the same year Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind was released along with John Steinbeck Grapes of Wrath.... on a more sinister note, the same year Hitler invaded Poland tiggering WWII..... aint life strange, crazy and beautiful all at the same time. 1939 was a super charged year.

The hoardings are up on the next fitout within the Southcamp precinct in Dunsborough - Dunn Bay Continental.
The name says it all really - a place to shop for daily needs, coffee, bread..... pick up some wine, flowers as well as catering for take away meals, travellers needs and of course icy poles.
Michael Forde has managed to pack alot into the corner retail space and is picking up the pace with construction on site with local builder Kurys-Romer Constructions.
Its due to open end of winter and be fully stocked for locals and travellers alike. I know its winter, but get your thongs cleaned up and your speedos ironed for spring / summer in Dunsborough.
