The recent passing of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins got me thinking how much music makes the world go round..... music has been a constant source of refreshment my whole life, especially when it comes to drums and percussion and that primal beat that drives any music forward.
Its no secret that i was voted Australias second best drummer in the 90's..... (dont Google it, its just a long standing joke....) but my love for music has always been with me in the highs and lows.... ive continued to play drums in some form or other since my teenage years. Hitting things hard and making loud noises helps release the build up.
Hitting things hard, staying in time and creating music with fellow musicians - well thats a different thing - Talyor Hawkins was good at this..
Ive always loved finding new music and new talent and some of the best places ive found are the worldwide radio stations which broadcast online or via Youtube or similar - such as;
Radio Paradise - https://radioparadise.com/player
KEXP - https://www.kexp.org
NPR Tiny Desk - https://www.npr.org
Give them a shot and if you have a projector and speakers set up in your house, these two are the ones to play on a Sunday arfternoon;
- Bon Iver at NPR - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJNi7aRwUzU
- Fat Freddys Drop in Lockdown - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlBcsS9Cozc
And of course, just to see Taylor roll it out;
- Foo Fighters at Wembley Stadium - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNiWeV40JXg&list=PLyjqnQsvvnpIIhmuem71_Av3goBkEfxN8&index=1
