St Brigids Bar - Pouring Spirit into Doubleview

St Brigid Bar is open to public..... another project with the usual suspects and our long term partners Bread and Circuses.

Once again the FINESPUN team (Marcos, Jen and Michelle) have delivered a space which fits the locals - its trendy but not too cool, its spacious but not too big, it doesnt target any particular crowd but built for all walks of life........ we try to fit venues into their locale and by the looks of early rumours its hit the nail on the head.

As always, these projects are the end result of a wider team effort including Danny, Fab and Vickey at Utopia and their sexy trades Matt, Nino, Rino, John, Brett amongst many others. You know who you are you sexy things. Nick the Bar Manager is also worth a perv!

If you like craft beer, freshly roasted coffee and local WA ingredients - then get your car serviced and ready to head south, because these tiny cabins are waiting for you.... (well not quite yet - this is just a prototype - but you get the sales pitch right?!) - a place to perch your head and catch up on netflix, relax on the deck and read a book in the cargo net........ dont worry - that ladder wont be there.

Alberts Respite and Refreshment

There's nothing worse than a local drinking establishment going under or being bought by someone who doesnt care about the locals........ i would like to think this flip of The Stanley was one of those projects that had the locals in mind - especially given the neighbourhood oriented operators Siobhan and Hamish who took over the venue right next to their beloved Flipside Burgers.

We wanted to flip the venue fast (because people get thirsty!) and open up the venue and clean things up whilst keeping the bones very familiar...... its like when your mate gets a glycolic facial, botox and filler injections and a new moisturiser......  they look fresh and a little younger - but its your same old mate. You know what i mean.

Architecture Distraction - Electric Vans

Too much architecture lately so i thought id check in on the Van Life progress for a little distraction...... it appears van makers are taking notice of the demand for vans AND electric vehicles so what better then to push the two together.....

Llike the iconic VW combi - remodelled in the new VW T20 model and the VW ID.BUZZ a new concept vehicle in production

And lets not forget Mercedes Benz - the Vision Van

Or check out these - Canoo electric range, MPDV (pictured above) and the Lifestyle Vehilce set for production in 2022 - this is what i imagined vans would be like when i was growing up!

Tesla has also thrown their hat in the ring stating a van is on the horizon.

Cant wait to see what Van Lifers do with these in the future...... OK back to work!

We are truly blessed to be in WA. Mask MgGowan has done a mighty job in being stout in keeping the 'rona' out of WA. I think its his military background.

Im not sure about your industry, but the buidling and architectural world is getting a little bit crazy.... its like people woke up and thought - "Well we didnt die, so lets get shit done" - YOLO 2.0

In any case, our hospitality friends have had it tough - it costs alot of money to shut down a venue and then reopen, only to be shut down again..... so heres a SALUD to all our hospitality clients - you all kick ass!

The FINESPUN Mix Tape

For you young puppies, the Mix Tape was a wonderous thing in the 80s and 90s. We didint have digitial music, ipods and spotify.....  it was either on vinyl, cassette and later on CD. The Mix Tape was generally used to hand out to friends who could play it in their car tape player - very similar to a Spotify playlist......

The Mix Tape required time, dedication and a good taste of music. My brother was pretty good at them.

Method? You put your CD in, select the song you want to record, press play on the CD player and hit record on the tape player at the same time. The interesting thing is you had to hang around and listen to the song and press pause or stop at the end of the song, so you were prepared for the next song. You get the idea...... in any case, i hope you had a good break over the festive season and i thought i would provide you with my Mix Tape from my various road trips down south......

Seya Later 2020..... You've been.... FINE?

The FINESPUN annual wrap is located HERE - i feel very grateful to work with great people, clients, builders, trades and consultants...... pens down 18th Dec 2020 and pens up 11th Jan 2021.

Thanks to all who have contributed to these projects - they are always, always, a team effort. We are a small highly efficient experienced team, we put everything in to our work when we work with you...... we were working remote before Zoom was invented, we didnt need to pivot - we already did that in 2008. The old saying - People Like Working with People they Like....... aint nothing truer than this in 2020. This year, i can truly say the individual people we are working with fall into this category.

Once again, the work we produce is nothing without our core team of which i have great trust and faith in, Marcos, Jen and Michelle and our extended team - locally sourced drafting teams and all the consultants we use frequently on our projects.

2020 has been a very wild ride, along with the VID, ive had many personal tragedies this year which always sculpts your view of the world. Thankfully the West Coast has managed to do better than the east coast and many parts of the world.

Be kind to your fellow human being, look after the planet the best you can and dont forget to wash your hands you filthy thing!

Down South

A little something we are working on down south....... First off - I would like to begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which this project is intended and pay my respects to their Elders past and present. There are times when sensitiviy is very much needed and this project is intended to be quiet in its approach, simple in its planning and intended to feel like its always been there.......  i know what you're thinking - bullshit. But we have truly attempted to place the man made built form on this land so that it enhances the connection with nature - even if its right in the middle of a town hub....... we welcome feedback on all levels.

You heard right...... there was a little bit of press running on the 'band' getting back together - the same team behind Mrs Brown, Mechanics Institute and many other kick ass venues are back to dish up some Doubleview delight. You may have seen this on the usuals.......

We hope this place becomes an establishment, a third room and a respite from all things normal - a place to meet your neighbours, a place to prop up the bar, a place to pop in for a quiet one and a place for your whole family to enjoy on a lazy Sunday.....

You do know St Brigid had a reputation as an expert dairywoman and brewer.... and was reputed to turn water into BEER! - No shit look this up.
